The Modern period at Maggs begins around 1800. We have a fair sized general stock of literature, and can usually offer a good range of first editions by the Romantic poets, Jane Austen, the Brontes, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Thomas Hardy, Joseph Conrad, Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, James Joyce, D.H. Lawrence, poets of the First World War, T.E. Lawrence, Winston Churchill, Evelyn Waugh, Dylan Thomas, John Betjeman and their contemporaries.

We are particularly keen on association material, and are effective cataloguers and sellers of literary archives.
