Sam Cotterell
Travel
Sam studied Fine Art at Falmouth University, specialising in printmaking and film. He works in the Travel Department where he began his career cataloguing the remarkable range of archival and manuscript material gathered there.
He now focuses on the Near and Middle East, producing catalogues and lists on the countries of the Islamic World. Areas of special interest include early photography (especially of Qajar Iran and the Persian Gulf), travel accounts by Muslim authors and Arabic printed books. Over his time at Maggs he has placed important items with private collectors and institutions in the UK, Switzerland, North America, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
Outside of work he likes to make ceramics, draw, write and (when in need of time away from a desk) go out walking in the strange hinterlands of North-East London.
