8vo (150 x 100mm). [16], 317, [3] pp. A very clean copy. Contemporary handsome polished calf, spine tooled in gilt, black morroco and gilt label, speckled edges, marbled endleaves (upper joints just starting but otherwise fine).

The famous Foulis press produced a number of different printings of Paradise Lost in various sizes. 

 

Provenance: Sir John Trollope (1800-1874), armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Sir John was second cousin to the novelist Anthony Trollope.
