Folio, an extremely good copy in the original linen-backed paper-covered boards with printed paper spine label and stamp of the Bremer Binderei on the lower pastedown, fore and lower edges uncut, slight fading to very top edges, otherwise very bright. Munich, privately printed for the author at the Bremer Presse.

A comprehensive catalogue of John Leech's oeuvres including a short summary of his work and a detailed bibliography of his illustrated books, Leechiana and lists of his original drawings, sketches, etchings and woodcuts along with a list of reference books.John Leech (1817-1864), artist and illustrator, was known for his caricatures and political and satirical lithographs, working for Bentley's Miscellany and for the newly established Punch in 1841. He was particularly strong in representing the hunting field and London fashion as can be seen particularly in his illustrations for books by Surtees. He was praised by Ruskin and his work gives a real insight into the life of mid-Victorian England.
