First edition, first impression. 8vo. xiv, 456 pp. Original red cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, bottom edge untrimmed, dust jacket (small amount of faint spotting to endpapers, otherwise internally clean; some negligible wear to extremities of jacket, red lettering to spine panel faded, withal a near fine copy). Oxford, at the Clarendon Press.

Hutchinson's enormous 'knowledge of the history of economics was first demonstrated in A Review of Economic Doctrines, 1870-1929, a book that arose out of the course Hutchison taught at LSE, which provided a systematic coverage of the subject from the date of the so-called marginal revolution to the onset of the Great Depression. It was unjustly overshadowed by the appearance of Joseph Schumpeter's posthumous magnum opus a year later' (New Palgrave).
