Hutchinson's enormous 'knowledge of the history of economics was first demonstrated in A Review of Economic Doctrines, 1870-1929, a book that arose out of the course Hutchison taught at LSE, which provided a systematic coverage of the subject from the date of the so-called marginal revolution to the onset of the Great Depression. It was unjustly overshadowed by the appearance of Joseph Schumpeter's posthumous magnum opus a year later' (New Palgrave).
