Second printing. Small. 8vo. [2], 48, 48, 47, [1] pp. Original red cloth, spine lettered in black, covers with double blind fillet borders (faint foxing to endpapers, some trivial wear to extremities, otherwise a very good copy). London, Progressive Publishing Company.
A popular introductory work on the Darwinian theory of evolution by Karl Marx's son-in-law Edward Aveling, originally published in 1885, comprised of three separately paginated lectures titled 'The Darwinian Theory', 'The Origin of Man', and 'Monkeys, Apes, and Men'.
An enthusiastic early reader has completed in manuscript a table of contents to the first lecture in black ink on the front pastedown, with some further occasional penciled underlining and marginal annotations throughout.
