1 page oblong 8vo, T. S. Eliot, B-11 Eliot House, Cambridge, 18 October 1932.

Letter written shortly before Eliot's stint in America when he assumed the Charles Eliot Norton Professorship of Poetry at Harvard (1932-1933). He writes to express his "sincere expression of regret" that he is unable to attend "such an important occasion" (Being the 50th anniversary of the Author's Club) as he will not yet be in the States.

"It would give me very great pleasure to be able to accept; but unfortunately I find that I have so much to do here ... that I have had to make up my mind that I cannot expect to get to New York before the Christmas vacation." He continues, "I am sorry to have to defer the pleasure, as there are many people in New York whom I am anxious to see, as well as many whom I do not yet know and should like to meet..."

The 50th Anniversary Dinner of the Author's Club was held on the 10 November 1932.

Light folds, otherwise very good.
