[Venice], 1540

Fourth edition of this very popular history of the Turks and the Ottoman Empire in which the author argues for the Scythian descent of the Turks. This work first appeared posthumously in 1529, printed by Giunta in Florence who dedicated the work to the author's son. The present edition is a reprint of an anonymously printed Venice edition of 1538. The work was also includes in the 1541 Aldine edition of Paolo Giovio Commentarii delle cose de Turchi. Göllner writes that the work is of particular interest on account of the description it gives of events at the turn of the 16th-century, and for the interesting details that are given about the Ottoman and Venetian connections. The work ends with the conquest of Egypt in 1517.
